Why Less is More: The Solo Developer's Guide to Sanity (Even with AI)

Ever caught yourself thinking "With AI, I can do everything!"? Yeah, me too. But here's a reality check I learned while building PostFlow - just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
As a solo developer (hey there, I'm Philipp, founder of Reruption and your friendly neighborhood podcast host at #buildinpublic), I've learned this lesson the hard way. Even with AI's superpowers, trying to be everywhere at once is like trying to eat an entire pizza in one bite - technically possible, but probably not your best move.
The Multi-Platform Trap
Let's break down what happens when you try to support every platform:
LinkedIn posts
Instagram Reels
Instagram Stories
Instagram Carousels
Twitter threads
Blog posts
YouTube shorts
...and the list goes freakin' goes on
Each of these needs different formats, different approaches, different everything. It's enough to make your head spin faster than a cryptocurrency chart.
Why Focus Beats FOMO
Here's the thing - even with AI doing heavy lifting (and trust me, I know a thing or two about AI after building PostFlow), the scope can balloon faster than your aunt's bread dough. You end up with:
Half-baked features
Mediocre user experience
A stress level that coffee can't fix
That constant feeling of dropping balls everywhere
The LinkedIn-First Strategy
So here's what I learned: Start with LinkedIn. Why? Because that's where the money is, honey! 🍯
When I was developing PostFlow's content generation features, I could've gone nuts trying to support every platform under the sun. Instead, I focused on making the LinkedIn experience absolutely killer. (And btw, if you're struggling with content creation and scheduling, you might wanna check it out - first 30 posts are on the house 😉)
The Real Talk
Look, I get it. FOMO is real. But here's some truth bombs:
AI isn't magic (shocking, I know)
Quality beats quantity
Focus creates better products
Your sanity matters
The Way Forward
Pick your platform (LinkedIn's a solid bet)
Make it awesome
Only then think about expansion
Sometimes the smartest thing isn't doing more - it's doing less, but doing it damn well.
And hey, if you're thinking "but what about all those other platforms?" - they'll still be there when you're ready. Promise.
From one builder to another - start small, think big, and maybe don't try to boil the ocean on day one. Your future self (and your blood pressure) will thank you.
P.S. If content creation is making you pull your hair out, I built PostFlow specifically for folks like you. It handles the heavy lifting of content ideation and scheduling, so you can focus on what matters. Just sayin' 😏
