Podcasts are a whole different ballgame compared to other media. When you're a listener, you don’t just naively follow a hundred or a thousand podcasts like you might on Instagram or Twitter. Those platforms let you follow someone with a single click without any commitment. But discovering new podcasts? That’s a different story. It usually happens through recommendations from friends or by stumbling across them on other media.

So, what do we as podcasters need to do? We have to step outside our podcasting box and make ourselves visible. Let’s dive into this, shall we?

Going Out of Your Medium

When I say you need to "go out of your medium," I mean you have to actively promote the topics you discuss, your personality, and your content on other platforms. You might be dropping golden nuggets in your podcast, but if you’re not present on social media, newspapers, or video platforms like TikTok and Instagram, how can anyone find out about you?

  • Social Media: This is non-negotiable! Get on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. Share clips, insights, and engage with your audience. It's all about creating that connection.

  • Newspapers & Blogs: Write a guest post or get featured in an article. This helps you tap into existing audiences who might be interested in your content.

  • Video Content: Short videos on TikTok or Instagram can help you reach people who prefer visuals over audio. Break down your podcast topics into bite-sized pieces that can go viral!

Remember, people won’t just magically find your podcast without seeing your face or hearing your name somewhere else. The more places you appear, the higher the chances they’ll tune in.

It's All About Discovery

You’ve got to make it easy for people to discover you! The more visible you are, the more likely they will check out your podcast. Think of it this way: you’re not just a podcaster; you’re a brand. And brands thrive on promotion and presence.

I’ve seen firsthand how posting clips and engaging on social media has driven new listeners to my podcast "Build in Public with Pippo and Paul." We wouldn't have grown as quickly without crossing over into those spaces.
